BEACHES

No beaches are far away, the furthest is 8 miles as the crow flies. The nearest are Fermain, arguably the prettiest in the islands on the east coast, within easy walking distance if you are reasonably fit, and Moulin Huet on the south coast which was painted frequently by Renoir, a bit further than Fermain. Whether you drive or cycle to near these, you will have to walk down the last part on a path, which includes steps for Moulin Huet.

CLIFF WALKS

The island boasts some of the finest cliff walks in Britain, some with views over the other islands and France. They are maintained by the authorities, have steps in many parts, so some sections may not be suitable for the disabled or the unfit.

BANKS

Apart from the many banks in St Peter Port, in the parish there are HSBC, Nat West and Lloyds TSB; and Barclays are represented at the post office in the Co-Op supermarket, a ten-minute walk to the south. A hole in the wall is available for all these except Barclays.

CONTOURS

The Manor is on one of the higher points of the island and St Peter Port one of the lowest and this should be born in mind when cycling or on foot.

MOBILE PHONES

Please check with your mobile phone company to see if your phone is accessible from the Channel Islands as not all mobiles work in Guernsey.

BUSES

Public transport during the day is frequent and inexpensive during the season, 50p a trip or 25p for short season ticket. Bus routes 7, 7A (goes right round the island) 6, 6A, 5 & 5A all pass the bottom of the drive.

TAXIS

Taxis are easily booked though can get scarce in the evenings especially at weekends.

MINUS POINTS

During the day the grounds are open to the public and are busy in parts, particularly on Sunday afternoons but go quiet at 5 o’clock till about 10 o’clock the next day. Pets are not allowed because of the ornamental ducks on the pond and the chickens, which are completely free range. Functions, wedding receptions and the occasional ball occur at the Manor and in marquees.

FURTHER INFORMATION

SHOPS - There is a Supermarket, a Wine Warehouse, HSBC Bank, Chemist, Doctors Surgery, Post box and public telephone at the end of the road (less than 300 yards).

Location

Being on a compact island, none of the numerous beaches and coves and little islands are far away. Two of the prettiest beaches - Fermain and Moulin Huet, much painted by Renoir, are around less than 20 mins on foot. With some of the finest cliff walks and surrounded by some of the cleanest seas in Europe it is a haven for divers, walkers, swimmers, surfers, sailors, photographers, bird watchers and artists. For everyone else there are around 30 attractions to visit like Medieval, Napoleonic and WWII Fortifications, Museums, Concert Halls, Open Gardens, an Aquarium etc etc. Minutes from St. Peter Port with its shops, harbour and an enviable array of restaurants.
